Transcriptome Comparison of Secondary Metabolite Biosynthesis Genes Expressed in Cultured and Lichenized Conditions of Cladonia rangiferina

Lichen secondary metabolites are natural products of high medicinal and industrial value, which produced by the fungal symbiont (mycobiont) lichens in response to environmental changes. It has been shown that cultured mycobiont is capable metabolite production, specifically polyketides, polyketide production affected presence or absence algal cyanobacterial (photobiont). Identification synthases encoding genes is, turn, key for understanding regulation synthesis. Using a previously established method resynthesis Cladonia rangiferina as well sequenced assembled genome species, we compared transcriptomes C. alone resynthesized with photobiont (Asterochloris glomerata) reveal transcriptionally active metabolic gene clusters, some neighbouring genes, induced events lichenization. The results identify potential candidates PKS rangiferina, cluster, offer insights into further research. study provides preliminary activity several identified biosynthetic clusters (BGC) interactions within those clusters.
